Kha Nang or Moulmein Lancewood
The local names of Moulmein lancewood (Homalium tomentosum (Vent.) Benth.) include Khanang, Lanang, Phueak Luang, Chephlu Puei, Nang Puei and Khanang Ling Ngo. This deciduous plant is around 15 - 20 meters high, with pale grey barge with buds popping out from the trunk. Young branches are covered with soft brown hair. The leaves are in monocotyledon system. Leaves are in oval shapes, with 5 - 13 cm width and 10 - 20 cm length, growing in the intercuspal alignment like a fish bone. In A.D. 1994, Royal Forest Department proposed Kha Nang to be the plant of Kanchanaburi Province because a great number of this plant are found in forests in Sai Yok District, Thong Pha Phum District, Si Sawat District and Sangkhlaburi District in the occasion where the government held the campaign of forestation to honor His Majesty King Rama IX for His Majesty's 50th Anniversary of His Majesty's Succession to the Throne. Her Majesty Queen Sirikit presided over the opening ceremony of the campaign and granted this plant to the governor of the province to plant as an auspicious asset of the province.
